In our third episode of our KC is Home video series, we visit KidsTLC, an Olathe-based organization dedicated to helping children and teens in crisis. KidsTLC provides children with a continuum of care through innovative and successful psychiatric treatment, outreach to homeless teens, outpatient behavioral health, autism, ADACEA services and parent support programs.
Among the expansive services and programs offered at KidsTLC is an accredited school operated on-site as part of the Olathe school district. Upon their arrival, many children are tracking two years below their actual grade level—but when they leave, they are on pace with their grade level.
“We have made a commitment to say that there’s always an open door at KidsTLC,” Heidi Wooten, Chief Development Officer, said. “You can close those doors to your past; you can walk through any door that you might be afraid of and actually find out that your fear is just something that is holding you back.”
KidsTLC has received a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent of charities, for nine years in a row. Only 1% of the charities evaluated by Charity Navigator receive this rating, indicating that KidsTLC outperforms most other charities by adhering to sector best practices and executing its mission in a financially efficient way.
